Since 1989, Sprezzatura have been dedicated to delivering and supporting quality bespoke software solutions to clients in many industries all over the world and to government departments as well. In 2005, the company was approached by the (then) Health Protection Agency (HPA and now Public Health England (PHE)) to nationalise an existing poisons information database, known as UK-PID. Following a short enhancement project, the system was rolled out to five sites across the UK and Sprezzatura have continued to supply the National Poisons Information Service (through the HPA and more recently PHE) with development and support services. 

In 2020, Sprezzatura independently embarked on a new application development project to build a brand new poisons information system which has since become known as EZ-PID. This 18-month project built on the company’s extensive knowledge of how the UK Poisons Information Service operates and the result is a modern software solution that enables poison enquiries to be quickly and efficiently processed.   

Whilst designing the new poisons information system, Sprezzatura wanted the new version to include far more information about substances and to pull important substance and qualified advice information into the enquiries data entry screens. This was solely to help new and existing responders to better process enquiries and to maintain better and tighter management control. 

Furthermore, with world governments being more and more aware of the risks to public health from a biological or other poisoning attack (just Google the poisoning in Salisbury), Sprezzatura wanted to include a powerful poising alert system, with email alerts and mapped reports of poisoning locations. The aim is to keep Poisons Information Service staff and wider government staff advised of developing issues as they develop and not find themselves reacting to media reports and playing catch up.
